For decades the colorful area of Venice Beach, right by the iconic Venice sign, was overlooked. It was a no-go zone for locals and deemed too touristy with little on offer for the actual nieghborhood.
That was until Great White opened in 2017.
Great White is a restaurant situated in the heart of historic downtown Venice which has singlehandedly brought the local soul into this eccentric bustling zone. Finally an establishment that truly embodied Californian lifestyle - sunshine, creativity and eclectic contemporary style. Great White reflects the owners passion and collective experiences in design, construction, hospitality and brand development.
Owners Sam Cooper and Sam Trude sourced everything from the coffee cups to the flowers and the art locally. By having all local contributors they ensured the project remained one that would support and respect the neighborhood.
Once the people living in the area discovered this gem of a location the conscious tourist followed.
Great White has become a destination restaurant, one on every awakened tourist’s radar and a way of life for the neighbourhood of Venice.
From inception Great White was to be the true embodiment of coastal living. A restaurant that served local produce, was built by the owners hands and would become a hub for the creative, inspiring people that lived in the area. With consistent failures in the location Sam Cooper and Sam Trude knew they had to create something truly unique for the Venice people.
Taking references from their personal global adventures, Great White was to be their own original take on the Coastal Californian restaurant.
With a balanced, sophisticated menu and beautifully organic interior, all designed by the boys themselves, Great White conjures up the best of sea side life.
Sam Cooper drew the iconic logo for Great White and insists on supporting local artists alike.
The Aussie duo have recently opened Great White’s sister restaurant across the street, Gran Blanco, transforming once again the part of Venice no one else had managed to infiltrate.
The brand plans to continue its overwhelming success at creating a true Californian coastal experience. Watch this space.
